Introduction
For over 25 years, USN has been providing Linux administration and support services for this client. Over this 25-year period, USN's engineers have assisted this client with the daily management of their IT environment at their Dutch location. This management ranges from application administration to the construction of complex computing clusters. In addition to supplying engineers, USN also works with this client on a project basis, and over the years, we have successfully delivered numerous projects to the client's satisfaction.
Project Contents
The Linux servers on which SAP was running at this client needed to be upgraded to the most recent version of the relevant Linux distribution in accordance with lifecycle management. The client's requirement was that this upgrade should take place with as little downtime as possible. The client had decided to replace the hardware in addition to the upgrade.
Result
USN were the first to set up a new environment on the new hardware and, in consultation with the SAP supplier, configured it entirely in accordance with guidelines for our customer. Once all systems were go, USN carried out the migration over the weekend so that this customer would experience as little downtime on the SAP environment as possible. After the migration was completed, USN decommissioned and cleared away the old servers at the customer's site, ensuring they were completely relieved of any burden throughout the entire process.
Because USN's philosophy is that projects should be executed with as much automation as possible, the entire migration has been developed in an Ansible playbook. This allows us to provide expertise more cheaply to any client with a similar assignment.
