Introduction
For more than 25 years, USN has carried out Linux management and support work for this client. Over that period, our engineers have helped them with the daily management of their IT environment at their site in the Netherlands. That work ranges from application management through to building complex compute clusters. As well as supplying engineers, USN works with this client on a project basis, and over the years we have delivered many projects to their satisfaction.
About the project
The Linux servers running SAP at this client needed upgrading to the most recent version of the relevant Linux distribution, in line with lifecycle management. The client asked that the upgrade take place with as little downtime as possible. They had also decided to replace the hardware at the same time.
Results
USN first built a new environment on the new hardware and configured it fully in line with the guidelines, in consultation with the client’s SAP supplier. Once everything was ready, USN carried out the migration over a weekend so the client would experience as little SAP downtime as possible. After the migration was complete, USN decommissioned and cleared away the old servers on site, so the client was spared any burden from start to finish.
Because USN’s philosophy is to automate as much of a project as possible, the entire migration was written up as an Ansible playbook. That means we can deliver the same expertise more cheaply to any client with a similar brief.
