Team

Wondering if we're your match? We'd love to introduce ourselves.

From banking to space travel.

Will you build IT that pushes boundaries?

At USN, we work on the coolest projects – from major banks to aerospace. Our engineers are involved in places where technology truly matters.

  • This is how we are working on the migration of tens of terabytes to the latest versions of Oracle at a major bank in Den Bosch.
  • At an international financial institution, we are building applications responsible for processing corporate loans worth €500 billion per year.
  • For six years, our specialists have been ensuring a robust Linux infrastructure for international police and investigative services. Safety first – and yes, that was achieved. With Puppet.
  • For a bank in the social sector, we manage the network and Linux servers, with automation at its core.
  • At the university, we are supporting the implementation of a scalable Ansible environment so that IT teams can continue independently.
  • Public transport also runs on open source: at a large transport company in the Randstad, we provide a managed infrastructure with Linux Red Hat, Device Edge, Satellite and Openshift, among others. Everything is intelligently automated with clear Ansible code.
  • Then there are the projects where we are building one of the largest Linux environments in the world, both remotely and on-site (such as in The Hague). Sophisticated scripts and tooling keep data centres on three continents running.
  • In the oil and gas industry, we ensure that patching and updates are structured and automated – so everything continues to run smoothly, without any surprises.
  • We also contribute to the aviation sector: we are building a stable Linux infrastructure for a training environment that prepares the new generation of air traffic controllers.
  • And in space exploration? We manage systems that support astrophysicists in developing applications for exploring the universe.

Our business, and therefore the company, is above all based on trust. Because you don't let just any engineer take on a multi-billion pound job. Only the best can do that. And the most likeable too. Anyone who loves technology and is technically minded is welcome here. Even if you're not the best yet. We offer plenty of training opportunities.

Curious if we're your match?
We'd like to introduce ourselves to you.

Rob Vermeulen - Owner USN

Rob

“The senior coffee lady from LinkedIn and club connector”

He calls himself a colleague but is a director. Within USN, everyone is equal; you don't need to address anyone formally. Rob has a lot of patience, is social and empathetic. And he enjoys conducting interviews with new engineers, including you, because he genuinely likes listening to their stories and motivations. Naturally, you'll be offered a cup of coffee during your interview.

The USN office should by no means feel like an office. That's why there's a sofa, there are games consoles, and everything else engineers enjoy. So that the workplace is a place where everything can be discussed, where we help and encourage each other, and where there is always the opportunity to ask questions. Just like in 1991.

Fun facts: Rob does everything by bike; he got rid of his car six years ago. He plays in goal on the football pitch twice a week and, naturally, tries to be the boss of the pitch. He's also fascinated by flight simulators. But actual flying isn't for him; he's afraid of flying!

Pleased to meet you, Rob.

Rogier

“The man from number two and therefore best of both worlds is”

Rogier loves the number two and likes to do everything in duplicate. Looking after two cats. Playing football and being a football supporter. And also in his work. Not that he carries out his tasks twice, but he does represent two roles in one person. As an experienced and seasoned Linux engineer and, more recently, also as a manager. He draws up quotes for projects, executes them, supervises, meets with clients, and plays a strong role when it comes to secondment. He translates client wishes into technical terms and vice versa. Rogier is strongly rooted in technology, so he speaks easily with our clients' engineers and architects.

Are you joining USN as a new colleague? Then Rogier is the person who will assess with you which project suits you and with whom you can have a substantive discussion. For our clients, he is a valuable asset because he understands both worlds: that of the client and yours, as a USN member.

Fun facts: Rogier can't choose just ‘two’ when it comes to sports, and went for three. He enjoys a game of paddle, running, and football. If you ask someone from Arnhem something, you can expect a direct answer. Rogier is no different. But always social and cordial, as those are also two characteristics that describe this friendly man well.

Pleased to meet you, Rogier!

Harry Houwen - Owner USN

Harry

“Lost your marbles? Need a little push? I give you what you need”

Harry doesn't get angry easily; he only boils over when he's in the kitchen. But even in the workplace, as a manager, he perfectly senses which ingredients the team needs. One person gets a nudge, another a pat on the back. He has gained over 20 years of IT experience within large organisations and knows that as a manager, you can't coach everyone in the same way. He manages you in the way that suits you. “Actions are better performed by people who want to do something, than people who have to do something.” He understands like no other what you need as an engineer.

He's always up for a joke, but takes the work that needs to be done seriously. When you talk to this gaming salesman, you don't have to be afraid of just serious talk. He's far too empathetic for that, which is also reflected in his large network.

Pleased to meet you, Harry!
