How it began.
USN, Unix Support Nederland, was founded in 1991 by a group of technicians who met at The Hague University of Applied Sciences. Twenty nerds and one ‘nerdette’, as they called themselves, who, after finishing their studies, had no desire to work as employees. So, what do you do when you have a shared passion for technology? You find a space where you can work with open source every day, purely out of 'love for Unix'. To be able to pay the rent and earn money, they started with secondment.
From basement to office, but with a gaming station.
The USN nerds are no longer in a basement keeping systems running. That now happens from offices in Amstelveen and Maarssen. But with a character that suits the ‘basement vibe’: it has a game station, a coffee bar and its own record collection. Not an average office. And what has remained is the same drive and passion for technology. Whereby everyone, except Harry and Rob, works with open source and Linux every day. They don't do this without merit, as USN now has a considerable client portfolio.
Large clients with challenging issues.
USN's clients are major clients. Larger than we often realise ourselves. We have good relationships with every client. Which is not only pleasant, but also necessary. Because you, our engineer, often work with a client for a long time, a good relationship is extremely important. Naturally, we work for clients who have technically challenging, enjoyable, and sometimes even special assignments. We are not modest in that regard; we stand for the quality, expertise, and experience of our team. No job is too complex or too large. Because if we don't have enough experience ourselves, we can make use of a very warm and valuable network. This is a group of hundreds of engineers, friends of USN, who stand by USN. We can bring them in for consultations, for brainstorming, but also to double-check everything one last time. Because who can check you if you are actually the best yourself? Those ‘friends of USN’ are excellent backup. And is often not even needed, but the possibility is enough.
